What Setpoint does with your data, the small things that keep you going, and how to reach me.
Your data stays yours
Your food log, weight and plans are visible only to you. That is enforced at the database level, not by the app being polite about it.
No ads. Nothing sold to anyone. Nothing used to train models. Delete your account from inside the app and everything goes with it, permanently.
Export your whole food log and weight history to a spreadsheet whenever you like. A food diary is years of your life and it should not be trapped in one app — being easy to leave is the point, not a concession.
Lock the app behind your fingerprint, face or device passcode if you would rather nobody picking up your phone could read it. It will not pester you for a fingerprint every time you step out to the camera, and signing in with your password always works — so a sensor that stops working can never lock you out of your own account.
Groups, with people you actually know
Start a group, share the code, and compare the month with up to twenty people you invited. Sessions trained, weight moved, days logged, trophies earned — and steps, if you switch them on. First names only, with a chat you can send photos in. Part of the subscription.
There is no public leaderboard and no way to find a group you were not given the code for. Your weight, your body fat, what you ate and how close you came to your calorie target are never shown to anybody, in any group, and there is no setting that would. Ranking people on how little they ate is a competition this app will not run.
Reminders that know what you have already done
A nudge at each meal time you choose, and a weekly weigh-in. A meal you have already logged is never mentioned. No streaks and no daily score — those exist to make you open an app, which is not the same as helping you.
The weigh-in matters more than it looks. It is the measurement your expenditure figure is built from, so a missed one does not just lose a data point, it holds up the number the whole app is for.
One line a day, and only when it is true
Optional, and not a motivational quote. Each morning Setpoint can tell you one thing about your own numbers: how close your expenditure estimate is to being measured rather than guessed, that tomorrow's weigh-in closes out the week it is fitted to, or that you have hit your protein target on twenty-five days now.
On a day when there is nothing true to say, it says nothing. That is the whole design. Every other tracker can send "don't forget to log" — none of them can tell you how many days of your own data the estimate is built on, because none of them measure it.
Trophies for what you did, not what you weigh
Logged thirty days. Twelve weigh-ins. Fifty training sessions. Never a kilo lost — weight is only partly in your control, and an app that rewards eating less is a different and worse thing.
Nothing counts a run of days, so nothing can be broken by a holiday or a week of being ill. And there is no list of the ones you have not got: the wall is empty when you start and fills as you go, because a checklist of things undone is not what a food app should be showing anybody.
Talk to the person who built it
Setpoint is made by one person in Australia. There is no support team, no ticket queue and no chatbot — mail goes to me, and I answer it. Usually within a day or two.
Worth saying what helps
Something is wrong in the app. A screenshot and roughly when it happened is usually enough. Nearly every bug fixed so far was found by somebody using it and saying it looked wrong, not by a test.
Your data. To export or delete everything, the deletion page is faster than mailing me — it does it properly, from inside your own account.
You coach competitors. This is the one I would most like to hear about. Contest prep makes a set of physiological assumptions — rates of loss, runways, peak-week carb figures, how cardio should scale — and every one of them is written down in a single document, on purpose, so somebody who has actually taken people to a stage can disagree with them line by line. Nobody has read it yet. Say so and I will send it.
Something is missing. Most of what is in here started as somebody asking why it was not.
Stop guessing what you burn.
Two weeks of honest logging is all it takes to start replacing a formula with your own data.
